On this International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we proudly celebrate Samantha Lunn (Sam)—a scientist, innovator, and leader who is shaping the future of water quality solutions at Palintest.
A Trailblazer in Science & Innovation
Sam’s passion for science has driven her impressive career. She earned her Master of Chemistry degree with First Class Honours at Newcastle University, where she later pursued a PhD in Chemistry. Her groundbreaking research on DNA surfaces for sensing and nanomaterials led to patented technology and contributed to the founding of the startup NunaBio. Sam’s expertise in chemical engineering and sensor development now plays a pivotal role at Palintest, where she leads the Sensor Development team in advancing cutting-edge water testing technologies.
Championing Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)
Beyond her scientific achievements, Sam is an advocate for diversity and inclusion. As Palintest’s Diversity Champion, she has spearheaded initiatives to foster an inclusive workplace, from translating DEI training into Polish to forming a DEI committee that facilitates discussions on neurodiversity, disability, LGBTQ+ topics, and more. Her leadership has transformed DEI efforts into a company-wide movement, ensuring that all voices are heard and valued.
Driving Positive Change Worldwide
Sam’s impact extends beyond the lab. She represented Palintest in Ghana as part of the Gift of Sight campaign, supporting critical health initiatives to combat preventable blindness. She also actively engages in STEM outreach, mentoring young scientists and inspiring students through school projects focused on sustainability and environmental awareness.
Making Science & Sustainability Accessible
Sam is dedicated to sustainability, working with Palintest to assess and improve product designs for environmental impact. She collaborates with educators to introduce water conservation topics to young minds, demonstrating Palintest’s testing technologies to spark curiosity and awareness about global water challenges.
