Get To Know To Our Team – Lawrence

Lawrence has been a member of the Palintest team since 2012 and prides himself on delivering the very best customer service. A key member of our front-line team, we caught up with Lawrence to learn more about him and his role at Palintest.

Lawrence joined Palintest in 2012, having previously worked in a similar customer service role at a British department store. Originally from Zimbabwe, Lawrence came to the UK in 2002 living in the south until 2007 when he found a job in Newcastle.

What might people be surprised to know about you?

I like playing bossa nova music in the background when I’m cooking. It’s a melodic style of Brazilian music derived from samba.

What is your favourite food?

A medium-rare steak (marinated over-night in a good chilli) with a crispy salad and a ciabatta bread on the side.

If you could have one superpower what would it be?

To help people feel stronger, motivated and uplifted on their challenging days.

What is the best place you have ever travelled?

Anglesey – I stayed with my family at a seaside cottage for nearly a week. The tranquillity was breath-taking.

Can you describe your job in 3 words?

Incredible, fun, amazing.

What do you get up to outside of work?

Through Church, and a local charity group, my wife and I volunteer as marriage counsellors. We work with small groups helping married couples helping to repair relationships and support couples through difficult periods. I also offer lay pastoral support to young men who are growing up without fathers, or whose fathers are absent in their lives.

Why did you want to work for Palintest?

After working unsociable retail hours for a number of years, I decided I was missing out on too much valuable family time, so I began my search for a new role. The opportunity at Palintest appealed to me because it gave me the chance to help customers, and the products we sell have an impact on people’s lives.

What motivates you at work?

I am motivated by the pure enjoyment of my work – I enjoy offering help and support to our customers. As a customer myself I want to experience a positive customer journey, and I want Palintest customers to experience this too. Offering good customer experience is an important part of building up lasting relationships with our customers.

I also find the ongoing support and encouragement from my manager motivates me and gives me the confidence to do my job well.

What interests you about Palintest products?

We have a wide range of products which test and analyse water quality in a variety of applications. This includes testing and cleaning bags of salad and peppers in your local supermarket, or public health facilities like wastewater, or even testing water in your local swimming pool.

Water quality is such an important part of our lives. Without clean water we would struggle to do the most basic of things like staying hydrated, cooking and cleaning. Aware of the importance of the effectiveness of these products, Lawrence works hard to ensure that his customers are happy, and the products are working as intended.
